To Whom It May Concern:
Welcome back to another school year! As you plan educational opportunities for your students, please give serious consideration to the Health, Tech and Trades Career Expo scheduled for Thursday, December 4 at the FargoDome.
Across our state and nation there is a cry for employees trained in health, technology and trades fields. Yet, students are often unaware of the potential within these areas. The mission of the Career Expo is to expose students to occupational opportunities available in the health, technology and trade industries in our region through hands-on experiences. It is the steering committee’s goal to educate, inform and open student minds to lucrative career pathways that they might not otherwise have considered.
Each attending school is scheduled to a one hour and fifteen minute time slot during the morning or early afternoon for their students. During that time students are invited and encouraged to interview professionals from these career areas, to observe demonstrations of skills used in these areas, and to roll up their sleeves and participate in activities planned for them by exhibitors.
The Career Expo has grown each year to include more exhibits and interactive displays. Although costs have increased as well, the committee is working hard to secure sponsorships so that each school can attend free of charge.
Enclosed is an application of intent, which will secure time on the schedule for students from each school. Once we receive this form, school representatives will be contacted about the following requirements: 1) All schools in attendance will need to provide a certificate from the district’s insurance company verifying the school’s amount of liability coverage with minimum limits of liability of $1,000,000 per occurrence. Some policies might require a rider, which could result in a small fee. 2) Schools will also need to return a provided signature page as part of the event contract with the Fargodome.
While we view ninth grade students as our primary audience, all high school students are welcome to attend. Please indicate on the application the total number of students you plan to send as well as the grade levels they represent.
The committee is also requesting information on how to be present during events, such as parent/teacher conferences. We would be interested in having a table, providing brochures or any opportunity to inform parents of our event. We would also like to put information in your parent newsletters. Please send any details on how to best promote our event your school’s parents, along with your application to attend.
